Dermatology

Keep your pet's skin and coat healthy with regular veterinary check-ups.

Veterinary dermatology is a specialized branch of veterinary medicine focused on the diagnosis and treatment of skin conditions in animals. With our dermatology service, we offer extensive expertise in identifying skin problems, determining their causes and proposing treatment plans adapted to the individual needs of each animal.

What are the signs that my pet may be suffering from a skin problem?

If your pet displays signs such as frequent scratching, redness, skin irritation, hair loss, sores, an unpleasant smell or recurring ear infections, it is important to consult a veterinarian. These symptoms can indicate an underlying skin condition requiring assessment and appropriate treatment.

What are the most common skin problems in pets?

The most common skin problems we see in veterinarian dermatology are:

  • Skin allergies: Food and environmental allergies are common in pets. Symptoms may include scratching, redness, bald patches, etc.
  • Skin infections: Bacterial and fungal skin infections are frequent in pets, particularly dogs. These infections can cause irritation, itching and rash.
  • External parasites: Fleas, ticks, mites and lice can infest the coat and skin, causing itching, irritation and a variety of skin conditions. To learn more, visit our page on this topic: Preventing and Treating Parasites.
  • Ear infections: Ear infections are common in both cats and dogs. These often cause itching and irritation in the ears.
  • Hormonal disorders: Hormone imbalances, such as hypothyroidism, can cause changes in the skin or coat.
  • Coat problems: Changes in the texture or quality of the coat can sometimes be a sign of nutritional issues or underlying health problems.
